"Just trying to matter"
Tuesday, March 07, 2006
Some deeper takes by UE:
- Reese Witherspoon had a great line in her Oscar acceptance speech: "People used to ask June [Carter Cash] how she was doing, and she used to say -- 'I'm just trying to matter.' And I know what she means. You know, I'm just trying to matter, and live a good life and make work that means something to somebody."
- Dana Reeve and Kirby Puckett were taken too quickly from this world today. These two "mattered".
Dana spent 9 years of her life caring for someone else (her husband) and has helped raise $55 million for paralysis. Kirby grew up in a Chicago housing project and overcame his 5'9", chubby frame to become a baseball hall of famer. Great quote from Kirby: "I was told I would never make it because I'm too short. Well, I'm still too short, but I've got 10 All-Star games, two World Series championships, and I'm a very happy and contented guy. It doesn't matter what your height is, it's what's in your heart."
Here's to living a good life and mattering something to somebody.
