Cursed Nike commercial?

This is one of the most creative Nike commercials ever made, but when you see who's in it you'll wonder if it's cursed. With Marion Jones' recent announcement that she was on steroids during the 2000 Olympics and Michael Vick's dog fighting conviction this past summer, 2 out of the 7 athletes in the commercial will most likely spend this New Year's in jail. And since the ad released, Agassi has dropped Nike in favor of rival adidas.
What's next? We'll find out that Randy Johnson was on human growth hormone?

They say he's the best ever. And he's only 25 (turns 26 on 8.8.07). And now the best golfer in the world (T. Woods) introduces Roger Federer in his first ever Nike commercial. Just Do It, Lance

Even though Lance Armstrong is two years removed from his professional cycling career, he still remains one of my top four professional athletes of all time (along with Charles Barkley, Andre Agassi and Kirby Puckett).
This 2001 Nike commercial is one of the best I've seen. It plays on the fact that during his Tour de France dominance, he was the most tested athlete in the world. The last line is legendary Nike advertising.
What am I on? I'm on my bike...6 hours a day...busting my ass.

'Melo Jumpman ad

Here's my posting philosophy: When I see fresh stuff, I post it. Although I try to diversify as much as possible and cover various interesting topics, freshness usually wins out. And even though I frequently post about Nike and their badass commercials and in general all athletic apparel ads, this 'Melo spot for Jumpman (Brand Jordan) is one of the baddest ads I've seen in a while. His fitness clips are totally authentic-looking and motivational.

Nike basketball's System of Dress

I'm all about almost everything Nike (examples here, here, here, here, here, here). They have the freshest apparel and are flat-out the best at creating a buzz in the sports fashion world. And their ads are no doubt the finest in the biz.However, Nike's new line of college basketball uniforms labeled "System of Dress" is not some of their best work. The site claims that basketball uniforms haven't changed much in the last 15 years since Michigan's Fab 5 first rocked baggy shorts, black shoes and no-show socks.
The new line was designed to include even baggier shorts with tight, form-fitting jerseys and skintight undershirts with designs matching the uni. Syracuse, Ohio State, Florida, and Arizona are the first to sport the unis with the rest of the "Nike schools" picking them up next season. I agree with Uni Watch that athletic apparel trends should be organic, not manufactured by a billion dollar company. Read this Uni Watch writeup on the subject.

Apple, Nike go green

Two of the freshest, most original companies in the world (and no surprise - two of my favorites) have made concerted efforts to go green. In the process, they have raised green awareness to their young, hip followers.Both companies have dedicated environmental sections on their websites.

Also, check out the Sustainable Style Foundation, a non-profit that promotes sustainable living and design. I like their slogan: look fabulous, live well, do good. But the best part is that SSF's website hosting is wind powered.

Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer on 10/2/1996. He was told he had about a 50% chance of survival. It turns out his doctor estimated he only had about a 2% chance of survival.Nike has capitalized on this inspiration by launching the 10//2 Collection. On that page under "Downloads", you can get these really cool, free desktop wallpapers (below) of magazine ads from the 10//2 Collection.

Adidas and Nike battle eachother out in most sports, but the rivalry between their endorsed basketball athletes is a great matchup. First off, here's the Nike squad. And the Adidas squad is below.

For Adidas, you've got the It Takes Five five -- Chauncey Billups, Gilbert Arenas, Tracy McGrady, Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan.For Nike, you have to choose five from the guys walking around the airport tarmac. We'll go with Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Jermaine O'Neal and Amare Stoudemire.
Tough call. Nash is incomparable, but on a team like this, Billups' catch-and-shoot talent makes him close. Kobe gets the edge on anyone, but Arenas is right there. Frontcourt, however goes to Adidas.
So who wins? If you have to double Duncan, McGrady or Garnett, those backcourt shooters will kill you.
So I'll go with Adidas based on the one thing that doesn't show up in either commercial -- passing.

25 years of Nike's Air Force

Nike's been running a pretty solid ad campaign around the "second coming" of their Air Force basketball line. To me, the best Nike ad campaigns are the ones that feature a look into their rich athletic history - and this does. The spots feature old timers like Jamaal Wilkes, Moses Malone and Charles Barkley and "the second coming" guys like Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, and Rasheed Wallace. Check out the official Nike Air Force site (click on the "25 years of Force" and the "Second Coming" buttons on the bottom left). Also check out the Air Force desktop background.
My only knock on Nike is that they divide up their various brands too much in ads - making it seem to the average person that Brand Jordan's Carmelo Anthony is sponsored by a different company as Air Force's Shawn Marion even though they're both techinically Nike guys.

This video is frickin' awesome. Like all of the best Nike commercials it was the idea of famed advertising firm, Wieden + Kennedy. Read the backstory on the ad here. Did you know Huarache is named after the Hispanic name for a sandal used in South America?
