Shift happens due to globalization
Thursday, October 04, 2007
These awesome facts on globalization were originally compiled by a high school teacher in Lilttleton, CO for a presentation that he was making to other teachers on teaching students for the 21st century. [via RW]
Want a sign that globalization is something we're not prepared for? The word "globalization" has a red squiggly line underneath it as I type this into Blogger, indicating it's misspelled. It's the only word on this page with one of those lines underneath it.
Read the back stories on the two videos (links above videos) before watching them.

The College Gameday effect
Monday, September 10, 2007
I love viral marketing campaigns that involve very little money and lots of creativity. The internet has spawned so many efforts that have single-handedly made companies. This past weekend as I was watching ESPN's College Gameday, I noticed something I had never noticed before. In the background (behind Fowler, Corso and Herbstreit) and amongst the rowdy LSU fans were a couple simple signs on long poles promoting various websites. The ones I noticed were bettingkings.com, a gambling service and beatsaban.com, a site selling Nick $aban shirts.
It'll be interesting to see how those sites and others capitalize on the traffic.

"Obama girl" changes the presidential election
Friday, August 31, 2007
The power of the internet is crazy, huh? I know this video is a couple months back, but I just caught wind of it last night. To set it up for those who haven's seen it: basically, a NY public relations exec had an in idea for a video talking about having a crush on presidential candidate Barack Obama. He sought some people (including the videographers and a hot lip syncer who has garnered a cult following) out on Craig's List to make it happen and voila -- a YouTube phenom that has been watchd over 3 million times. Although Obama himself has nothing to do with the video, you better believe it's made the YouTube-watching crowd think twice about Barack. That's powerful!
The key will be to see how they monetize this idea. It looks as if shirts and apparel are already in the mix.

This is good stuff -- original and witty. The last segment is by far the best sequence. Props to David Marcus.

Hilarious conversation on public access TV
Friday, August 17, 2007
Watch 2 minutes of this video and you'll wonder what the hell is going on. Watch 5 minutes and you'll be laughing your arse off. The funniest part about the clip is that it's actually from Atlanta Public Access TV. Here's the background:
Alexyss Tylor hosts a show on Atlanta Public Access called "Vagina Power" with her mother in which she discusses the complexities of the male/female relationship. In what can only be described as the oddest conversation about sex, ever, here's an example of her thoughts:
"Because if we're in a lower level love and if we're hooked on the "Penis Power" and this man won't even buy you some shrimp from Long John Silver's and what...that plate what...$2.99? But he'll give you a mouth full of sperm and a rectum full of sperm."I don't watch much public access TV, but I might start.

AIG commercial - "can't sleep"
Tuesday, June 19, 2007
There is no doubt that the Nintendo 64 kids BMW commercial from the 2006 holiday season (Remember when wishes came true - 11.30.06) is one of the funniest I have posted on Urban Eola. Now loyal reader JB924, and one of the biggest supporters of that video, has this to say:
AIG "Can't Sleep" commercial
T -- There is no doubt that the BMW Christmas video commercial that you blogged
about is insanely funny.....however this AIG "Can't Sleep" commercial might
have edged it by a nose...what do you think?

Funny or Die with Will Ferell
Thursday, April 19, 2007
This is pretty awesome. Funny or Die is a new viral video website. Will Ferrell stars in this homemade-looking internet video. "The Landlord" (below) is a genuinely funny two-minute movie in which Ferrell plays a lowlife who is accosted by his angry landlady. The catch: Pearl, the landlady, is played by a 2-year-old.
After being posted on Funny or Die.com, "The Landlord" quickly went viral and had scored nearly 1.6 million views as of this writing, piling on tens of thousands more every hour. Brilliant. Read the LA Times story.
