Every digital camera-carrying photographer (that's pretty much everyone who owns a camera or even a cell phone camera) has this problem... taking a picture of yourself or with others without asking the sketchball walking by to take it. Here's a pretty neat solution. [via FT]For $25, Quik Pod offers a lightweight, plastic, telescoping support for your digital camera or camcorder. It screws directly into the camera's tripod hole and adjusts to any angle. The idea is that now you can take self-portraits without having to hand the camera to that sketchball. You can also shoot over crowds, under the car, etc. by easily setting the camera's self-timer to make it take the shot.
The Quik Pod's hand grip is rubberized to make it a more comfortable grip. And the whole thing is made of polycarbonate and aluminum, so it's waterproof, for use with underwater cameras.

With the release Microsoft Vista a couple of months ago came new desktop images (wallpapers). Here's an interesting bit about the wallpapers [via Supertsai]."Ever wonder how they choose what photos will be included as wallpapers? It turns out that all of the wallpapers for Vista were taken by one man. He shoots purely digital too.
His name is Hamad Darwish - and it turns out that he is somewhat of an Internet success story. Microsoft noticed his images on Flickr and approached him directly. Now his photos will be seen by literally billions of people over the next few years... amazing!"

Since 1964, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue has been a brilliant idea by Sports Illustrated. The best part is it allows guys to not look like pervs when buying the magazine (by the mailman or the grocery store clerk) because technically it's a "sports publication". That's what makes it great - the Swimsuit issue has nothing to do with sports. Singer Beyonce is on the cover of this year's music-themed edition. The issue came out yesterday, Valentine's Day. No irony there, huh?I wonder what percentage of men order the $50 magazine subscription purely for this one issue. Check out the SI 2007 online version you "sports fanatics".

The nicest hotel in the world

The Burj al-Arab (in Arabic - "Tower of the Arabs") in Dubai is, in my opinion the coolest-looking hotel in the world. Type "Burj Al Arab" in Google Images to see some other amazing photos.
- It is the tallest building used exclusively as a hotel in the world.
- It has been marketed as the world's ony 7-star hotel.
- It stands on an artificial island out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge.
- Suites range from $1,000 - $15,000/ night.
- Was featured in the Tom Clancy book, Splinter Cell: Checkmate.
- Even tours of the hotel are not free. It costs $50 "just to look inside" the hotel.
- Andre Agassi and Roger Federer have played a famous game of tennis on the hotel's helipad. Check the pictures here and below (I love the one of Agassi peeking over the edge). Tiger Woods has also teed up off the hotel's helipad.
- If you were wondering Dubai is the second largest city in the United Arab Emirates. [via ZH]

Update // 1.11.07 - hate to say I called it, but I did.
Beckham's conquered practically every region of the world, but the U.S. His penchant for fashion, marriage to Posh Spice and his high profile social life make him a perfect candidate for a move to the States. Major League Soccer approved a new rule this summer called the "Beckham Rule", which allows teams to go over the salary cap and spend whatever money they want on up to 2 marquee players. L.A., is Beckham on his way to the hometown Galaxy? Here's a great article on his possible move. While you're at it watch Ali G's hilarious interview of Becks and Posh.
